Caring Kind Award Recipients

Doris Blume - Caring Kind 2013

Doris BlumeDoris Blume, Community Hospital Patient Financial Counselor, was honored in October as Community Hospital’s 2013 Caring Kind recipient during the Nebraska Hospital Association (NHA) annual convention in La Vista. During the convention, Doris was a guest at the Caring Kind luncheon along with other recipients from across the state.

The Caring Kind award is a time-honored tradition of the NHA. It recognizes outstanding health care employees who have demonstrated compassion for patients, cooperation with coworkers and dedication to providing the best care possible. Hospitals across the state select a Caring Kind recipient from within their respective institutions.

Doris was nominated by co-workers and chosen by the Community Hospital PACT (Pride, Activities, Communication Team) Committee.

Her announcement read: “Doris Blume has been selected as the recipient of the 2013 Community Hospital Caring Kind Award. She has been an employee of Community Hospital for 36 years – seeing a number of changes along the way while wearing several different hats. Her area of expertise comes from her experience as the Business Office Manager and as Patient Financial Counselor. She is always ready to assist others by using the immeasurable amount of knowledge she has acquired when it comes to patient accounts, billing questions, insurance companies, Medicare and Medicaid. Her authentic compassion is easily seen as she assists patients to locate funding to help with their bills, as well as assisting to re-file claims or answer questions. She takes the time to provide excellent service and individual attention making patients feel not only valued but also cared for.

Doris is a positive team member and can also be seen helping fellow employees in multiple ways. She is an important part of the Health Insurance Committee, answers employee insurance and billing questions, is a friend, a teacher, a hospital historian and has a genuine commitment to help others. Her cooperation and dedication to excellence can be seen in everything she does. Doris is truly a caring-kind of person.”

Her husband Ron and their daughter, Anne Gahn, from Lincoln were able to attend the luncheon with her, along with some Community Hospital staff. She and Ron also have one son, Paul, from Indianola, eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.
