Run/Walk to Benefit the American Cancer Society
Community Hospital is honored to sponsor an event to benefit the American Cancer Society. “I run because I can. When I get tired, I remember those who can’t run, what they’d give to have this simple gift I take for granted, and I run harder for them. I know they would do the same for me.”
To support the American Cancer Society, Community Hospital and the McCook YMCA are hosting a benefit 5K and half marathon run/walk on Saturday, May 19.
Packet pick-up and race-day registration is from 7 to 7:45 a.m. at the northeast side of Community Hospital. The half marathon run/walk starts at 8 a.m. and 5K run/walk begins at 8:30 a.m. After May 4, registration is $40 for the 5K and $60 for the half. (Add two dollars more for shirt sizes XXL and XXXL.) Fees include breakfast, a moisture wicking shirt, and door prizes. Funds raised from the event will be donated to the American Cancer Society. Those who register after May 4 may not receive their shirt until after the race. Online registration/payment remains open until Wednesday, May 16 at 11:59 p.m.
Both races begin on East 11 and East J Streets just north of Community Hospital. Runners will proceed north on East 11 Street. 5K runners will turn around on East 11 Street and return to Community Hospital. Half marathon runners will run to Road 719, turning left (west), running to West Third Street, turning left (south); McCook Elementary, before turning around and returning to Community Hospital. Awards
Medals will be awarded for the 5K at 10 a.m. and for the half marathon at 11:30 a.m. They will be awarded to the top three male and females in each age division including under 14, 14-21, 22-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and over 60 years old. Prizes will be awarded to each first place male and female winners in the 5K and half.
Memorial Race Bibs
Memorial race bibs can be ordered to wear on the runner/walker's back in honor of, or in memory of, a loved one. Cost is $5 for each bib. All of the proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society. Order memorial bib.
Kid’s Fun Run
A kid’s fun run will be held at 7:50 a.m. Cost is $5 for each child. Each will receive a goody bag. There is no early registration. Kids will register on the day of the event only.
