Grand Opening
It was with great anticipation that Community Hospital staff hosted the open house and grand opening of our new patient wing in January 2011. We were excited to show our friends and neighbors what we had been seeing take shape the past year. We knew the advanced technologies and beautiful, well thought out design to increase patient comfort, privacy and excellent care were going to exceed their expectations.
Not even a snow storm could keep the crowds away from the celebration in a spacious tent with heating and flooring. The tent was filled to capacity with standing room only as the snow continued falling. One of our featured guests, Senator Ben Nelson, flew in for the day, saying snow could not keep him from attending.
A delicious buffet of hors d’ oeuvres and desserts, along with tours of the new facility, were highlights of the day.
Move-In Day
Several weeks after the grand opening, the big day finally arrived. Patients were moved from the old patient pods into the new patient wing, bringing an end to an era of patient care in the pods. Several months later, the pods were demolished to make room for Phase 2 of the building project, which entails the surgery wing, a new pharmacy area, a large Community Hospital conference room and much more.
