NEWS RELEASE
September 1, 2009
Healthcare Career Scholarships Available Through Community Hospital Health Foundation

Thanks to the generosity of benefactors, financial assistance is available to students pursuing healthcare careers through the Community Hospital Health Foundation. Scholarships available at this time include:

General Scholarship/Loan

The scholarship/loan program administered by the foundation provides support for tuition. The program is called a scholarship/loan program because students who become employees of Community Hospital after graduation have the opportunity to have the award forgiven. Students who accept employment elsewhere are required to repay the amount as a loan. Repayment amounts are reinvested in future students.

Award recipients are selected by the Community Hospital Scholarship Committee based on qualifications, timely submittal of all requested materials, and desire to return to Community Hospital for employment.

Students wishing to apply must provide proof of acceptance into an accredited healthcare program. They are asked to complete an application form, submit two letters of reference and current transcripts. Applications are reviewed twice annually with deadlines for submitting on September 15 for the 2009/10 winter/spring semesters and March 15 for the 2010 summer/fall semesters. Application forms are available at Community Hospital Human Resources at 1301 East H Street and at Community Hospital Health Foundation located in Southview Plaza at 801 West C Street in McCook or log on to www.chhfmccook.org. Interested persons can learn specific information regarding the scholarship application process by calling Community Hospital Health Foundation at (308) 344-7222.

Endowed Scholarship

Additional scholarships have been funded by donors to commemorate individuals. These named scholarships do not require a payback arrangement, but do require the above application process along with a written essay. Applicants must submit a typed essay of 250 words or less entitled, “Why I Have Chosen the Health Field I Am Pursuing.” Applications must include a cover sheet with name, address, phone number and school attending. Named scholarships will be awarded annually with applications due September 15 and March 15 each year.
