Sleep Services

Community Hospital Sleep Center is conveniently located at 1301 East H Street inside Community Hospital. For more information on Community Hospital's Sleep Services, call the Respiratory Care Department at 308-344-8387.

Not getting the rest you need? Community Hospital's Sleep Center can help you achieve adequate and healthful sleep. A sleep technician gathers data that is later analyzed by a board certified sleep medicine physician who can recommend the proper treatment for you.

Two beautiful home-like sleeping suites with handicapped accessible private baths with showers are equipped with comfortable pillow-top mattresses, beautiful headboards, decorative wallpaper, side chairs, artwork and plump bath towels.

The comfortable and private rooms offer the patient the advantage of a quiet sleep study away from outside distractions. Hotel-type amenities include a breakfast coupon for the hospital cafeteria. Bottled water and coffee are also provided.

The sleep services facility includes a sleep technician room complete with computerized and specialized testing equipment which monitors a patient’s sleep and records key sleep characteristics. Once the sleep study data is collected and recorded, a board certified sleep physician must interpret the results. Two visiting sleep specialists who see patients at Community Hospital's Medical Specialists Center include Kalpesh Ganatra, M.D. and David Cantral, M.D.

Dr. Ganatra sees patients via telehealth the third Thursday of each month. Appointments may be made by calling his Hastings Clinic, Hastings Pulmonary & Sleep Clinic at 402-460-5787.

Dr. Cantral from Platte Valley Medical Group in Kearney, sees patients at the Community Hospital Medical Specialists Center on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. Call the Central Scheduling office at 308-344-8285 to make an appointment.

Dr. Jefrey Start, DO Family Medicine and Sleep Medicine is an interpreting physician for Community Hospital Sleep Services and does not currently see patients. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Sleep Medicine.

In-Lab Sleep Studies

Sleep studies conducted in the Community Hospital Sleep Center record specific body functions while you sleep, including heart rate, breathing rate and airflow, eye movement, muscle movement, brainwave activity, and blood-oxygen levels. Your doctor may request an in-lab sleep study if they suspect that you have a sleep disorder such as:

  • Obstructive sleep apnea
  • Parasomnias (i.e. abnormal movements, vocalizations, sleepwalking, restless leg syndrome, night terrors)
  • Insomnia
  • Snoring

An in-lab sleep study also can help your provider determine whether a specific treatment that is already in place, such as positive airway pressure (PAP) therapies for patients with breathing problems, is working properly.

Home Sleep Apnea Testing (HSAT)

You may have heard that some insurance companies also cover Home Sleep Apnea Testing, known as HSAT. This is a modified sleep study that some patients may be able to complete in the comfort of their own homes, using a portable sleep-monitoring device that records information including breathing rates, airflow, heart rate, and blood-oxygen levels. HSAT helps confirm moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea and is only used for patients with existing apnea symptoms and without other significant medical problems and sleep disorders. Your doctor will help you decide if this is a possibility in your particular case.

  • If you think you or a loved one is suffering from a sleep disorder, seek a referral from your personal physician or one of the sleep specialists listed above.
