Independence Day wouldn’t be the same without the early morning Freedom Run in Culbertson. Now a part of the Republican River Fitness Series, the annual run begins in the Culbertson city park (corner of Tate Ave and Wyoming Ave). The 5K/10K event can be run or walked and also offers kids’ 1/3-mile and 1-mile fun runs.
6:30-7:30 a.m.—Arrival/registration and race packet pick-up
7:30 a.m. sharp—Free 12 & under kids’ 1/3-mile and 1-Mile fun runs
8:00 a.m.—5K and 10K race start
11:00 a.m.—Culbertson July 4th Parade (Note: New time this year)
All races are out and back from the city park. The 1-Mile & 5K are on mostly flat, paved roads. The 10K has one hill at approximate mile 2.3 where the pavement changes to a gravel road. Both runners and walkers are welcome in all races. No bicycles or pets allowed. Strollers are welcome but must start at the back of the race line-up. In the event of a train interrupting the race route, volunteers will stop runners, and registration fees will be reimbursed, minus shirt cost, if applicable. The course is not a state-certified distance.
Registration fee is $15. $8 additional with a T-shirt and $12 additional with a tank top. Registration closes at 5 AM on race day. No registrations will be offered at the city park due to limited connectivity. No registration is necessary for the Kids’ 1/3-Mile & 1-Mile Fun Runs.

Water stations are located throughout the course. Proceeds of the race go toward the Culbertson July 4 Fireworks. Medals will be given to top finishers in each age division for each race except the Kids’ Fun Run.
