Are you a cancer survivor or a caregiver of a cancer survivor? If so, and you are looking for some extra support, please consider joining Community Hospital’s cancer support group, A Time to Heal, which begins Monday, June 3.

The 12-week, 12-session group includes lectures, discussion, exercise, support and fun! The support group is held at Unified Therapy Clinic, PC, 212 East First Street, McCook, from 3-5 p.m. The sessions will conclude on August 12. Reservations are needed by May 13 to ensure enough materials are available for attendees. For more information or to make reservations, call Unified Therapy at (308) 345-4884.

A Time To Heal is a holistic cancer rehabilitation program for survivors and their caregivers. A survivor is anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer. The program helps participants learn about regaining physical, emotional, spiritual and psychological health; practice a variety of anxiety management and coping techniques and receive encouragement, validation, and support from other participants as well as the professional staff.  It is open to both men and women of all ages, who have been diagnosed with all types of cancer.

There is no cost to support group members. Through a grant from the Community Hospital Health Foundation the hospital will provide to each attendee a binder of learning material, a music CD and exercise equipment, including an exercise band, ball, and handkerchief.

Facilitator for the support group is Hanah Nothnagel, licensed clinical social worker. She received her master’s degree in Clinical Social Work at the University of Nebraska - Omaha. Hanah is professionally trained in the A Time to Heal program.
