Hospital Meets Basic Level Trauma Recertification

September 20, 2021

Community Hospital has met the requirements as a Basic Level Trauma Center after participating in a re-designation survey and site visit in March 2021. The hospital has met requirements for this designation since 2003.

The statewide trauma program ensures that Nebraska hospitals meet the standards to be designated as a trauma center. Designations include Comprehensive, Advanced, General or Basic Trauma Center. The designation is based on the resources a hospital has available, and by successfully meeting regulatory requirements. Hospitals are surveyed every four years.

The Nebraska Statewide Trauma System offers a well-coordinated system to provide for appropriate and adequate trauma care. The system offers optimal care for trauma patients, conducts trauma prevention activities, prevents unnecessary death and disability from trauma, and reduces costs. Fifty-one hospitals in Nebraska are trauma designated.

Community Hospital’s trauma program is led by Walter Eskildsen, M.D.; Trauma Medical Director, Tammy Kolbet, RN; Trauma Coordinator, Steve Renner, RN and Paramedic Trauma Registrar; and Julie Wilhelmson RN, Director of Emergency and Outpatient Services. The trauma program collaborates strongly with McCook EMS, many area EMS squads, as well as transport agencies and higher level trauma hospitals in the state.
