Welcome Emergency Room Specialist

February 10, 2022

Community Hospital welcomes emergency room physician, Jacob Zeiler, M.D. to McCook. Dr. Zeiler has experience as an emergency medicine and family medicine physician in Texas. He is also a General Medical Officer in the United States Army Reserves with the 7231 Medical Support Unit in Lubbock, Texas.

He moved to McCook in mid-January and staffs Community Hospital’s emergency room full-time, generally working evening shifts during the week and some weekends.

Dr. Zeiler grew up in a little town in Tennessee called Elizabethton, near the North Carolina and Virginia borders. “I chose medicine because I wanted a profession that was continually challenging while making a difference in the lives of others,” he said. “I chose emergency medicine because it is very rewarding.  Many times I can help patients understand their illness and make them feel better in the process, all while ensuring they get appropriate care for their condition.”

He says he actually discovered the McCook area years ago on some of his motorcycle journeys when he was stationed with the Army in Colorado Springs, Colorado. “I really enjoyed it,” he said, adding, “My family has also visited Nebraska several times to go the ‘Woodstock for capitalists’ also known as the Berkshire Hathaway Annual Shareholder's meetings.”

He went on to say, “My experience with Community Hospital thus far has been nothing but positive. What I truly appreciate about this hospital is that the employees have tremendous motivation to be here and serve the community—which many of them have called home for years.”

Dr. Zeiler completed his family medicine residency with a sub-specialization in Emergency Medicine in June 2021 at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Tyler, Texas. His Doctor of Medicine was completed in 2016 at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Memphis, Tennessee. He is board-certified in Family Medicine.

In his spare time he likes to work out, read, play with his cats, listen to live music, and travel.
