New Visitation Guidelines at Community Hospital

March 2, 2022

Community Hospital is once again allowing visitation for all patients, with the exception of COVID-positive patients, since COVID-19 cases are waning at this time. All visitors must pass the screening process and must comply with the hospital’s mask-wearing guidelines--while in the facility they must be masked at all times. Some details apply:

  • The cafeteria remains closed to patients and visitors at this time due to construction.
  • Children under two years of age will be screened but do not have to wear a mask.
  • Waiting rooms for all practical purposes are open.
  • Visitors must adhere to current infection control practices of wearing masks based on Community Hospital’s Visitation Policy.
  • Visitors are required to wear masks in patient rooms.
  • COVID-positive patients are allowed one support person and clergy visits.

Main Entrance Reminder

Due to the fact that everyone who comes into the hospital must be screened for COVID, even with visitation open, the main entrance will continue to be locked at 4 PM daily and all weekend. Entrance into the facility after that must be done through the emergency department entrance on the north side of the hospital.

Mask-Wearing While Visiting

Sharon Conroy, Community Hospital Infection Preventionist gave the following information about mask wearing: “While visiting, please wear a mask. We understand that masking is no longer the normal while going about your daily lives. They can be uncomfortable and can make it hard to communicate, but remember, hospitalized patients are trying to heal from the injury or illness that currently ails them. As they heal, we want to be sure that they aren’t being exposed to any additional illnesses that may slow the healing process. Remember, just because you aren’t showing signs of illness now, does not mean that you aren’t shedding some type of virus. Masking can help reduce that risk of exposure. Our goal is to get your loved one or friend healthy and out of the hospital.

We want to thank everyone for their cooperation. Thanks for helping to keep our patients safe. We will continue to monitor the CDC recommendations on mask wearing guidance within a healthcare facility and update as the guidelines change,” she added.
