Bryan Health to Provide Mobile Vascular Screenings

Bryan Health will provide mobile vascular disease screenings on Thursday and Friday, August 4 and 5 in McCook. The Bryan Health mobile screening bus will be at Community Hospital, 1301 East H Street in McCook to perform atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) screenings, carotid artery ultrasound screenings, abdominal aortic ultrasound screenings, and peripheral arterial disease (PAD) screenings.

Cost is $110 for all four screenings, which is payable to Bryan Health at the appointment. Prices for the separate screenings are listed below. Appointments are necessary by calling Community Hospital’s Central Scheduling department at 308-344-8285. Appointments are limited and the schedule fills up quickly. These screening exams are not covered by insurance but can be reimbursed by medical flex spending accounts.

Atrial Fibrillation (AF or a-fib) Screening: Cost is $10

Atrial fibrillation is the most common irregular heart rhythm, affecting 2.7 million Americans. A-fib is caused by the top two chambers of your heart (atria) beating in an unorganized manner not in sync with the bottom two chambers (ventricles). There are no criteria necessary to be eligible for this screening.

To be eligible for the following studies you must be at least 65 years old or age 55 with certain personal risk factors or family history. Please discuss your eligibility with the Community Hospital scheduler.

Carotid Artery Ultrasound Screening: Cost is $40

This painless, noninvasive screening detects plaque deposits in the carotid arteries. These plaque deposits are a leading risk factor for stroke.

Abdominal Aortic Ultrasound Screening: Cost is $40

This painless, noninvasive screening detects the presence of an aneurysm in the abdominal aorta. A 4-hour fast is required.

Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) Screening: Cost is $20

Peripheral Artery Disease is caused by a narrowing or blockage in the blood vessels feeding the pelvis and legs. A painless, noninvasive test called the anklebrachial index (ABI) compares the blood pressure in the ankles to the blood pressure in the arms to determine how well blood is flowing.
