CH Hosts Special Event to Celebrate Cancer Survivors

Community Hospital is delighted to invite cancer survivors and their guests to a special event celebrating resilience and hope. The Light of Hope Survivor Dinner will take place at Prairie View meeting rooms in Community Hospital on February 24 starting at 6:00 PM.

Kim Holiday, the utilization review and swing bed coordinator for Community Hospital, shared her personal journey as a cancer survivor and a member of the cancer awareness committee at Community Hospital, stating, "In October 2019, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. The next year was a challenging one, especially with the added impact of COVID-19. Having experienced the difficulties and losses associated with cancer, I am passionate about being an advocate for other survivors."

The open event will feature a variety of activities, including live music and a social gathering at 6:00 PM, followed by dinner at 6:30 PM. Inspirational speaker and Community Hospital Chaplain, Tyler Thiessen, will address the attendees at 7:15 PM. The highlight of the evening will be a Lighting Ceremony in the Healing Garden at 7:30 PM, weather permitting.

"The Survivor Dinner provides a positive and supportive environment for survivors to come together, share their experiences, and enjoy an evening of celebration," says Tiffany Herman, admissions specialist in radiation oncology and cancer awareness committee member at Community Hospital, expressing the importance of supporting cancer survivors beyond their treatment. “We become a family and even after patients have rung the bell, there’s so much more behind that. Many times, we are their support system.”

Space is limited and there is no charge to attend this special event. Attendees are requested to RSVP by calling 308.344.8255 before February 9. Survivors do not have to be patients at Community Hospital; they can be survivors of any type of cancer and from any geographical location.

The Light of Hope Survivor Dinner is a unique initiative aimed at creating a sense of community and celebration for cancer survivors, acknowledging their journey and providing a platform for shared experiences.
