Independence Day wouldn’t be the same without the early morning Freedom Run in Culbertson. Now a part of the Republican River Fitness Series, the 14th annual run is Monday, July 4 beginning in the Culbertson city park. The 5K/10K event can be run or walked and also offers kids’ 1/3-mile and 1-mile fun runs.
6:30-7:30 a.m.—Arrival/registration and race packet pick-up
7:30 a.m. sharp—Free 12 & under kids’ 1/3-mile and 1-Mile fun runs
8:00 a.m.—5K and 10K race start

All races are out and back from the city park. The 1-Mile & 5K are on mostly flat, paved roads. The 10K has one hill at approximate mile 2.3 where the pavement changes to gravel road. Both runners and walkers are welcome in all races. No bicycles or pets allowed. Strollers are welcome but must start at the back of the race line-up. In the event of a train interrupting the race route, volunteers will stop runners and registration fees will be reimbursed, minus shirt cost, if applicable. The course is not a state certified distance.
Registration fee of $25 for the 5K or 10K races includes a race shirt. Early registration deadline is June 20. Registrations will be accepted the day of the race, but shirts will not be available. Registrations must be postmarked June 20 in order to receive a shirt the day of the race. Day-of and late registrations will be able to pick up shirts at the McCook YMCA at a later date. No registration is necessary for the Kids’ 1/3-Mile & 1-Mile Fun Runs.
