Board of Directors February Meeting

McCook, Nebraska—Community Hospital Board of Directors learned at the February 19 meeting that the overall health of the four seeds of our organization: People, Service, Quality and Finance is at goal.

Review of Activities

Under Review of Activities, Steve Shaner, Community Hospital Strategic Planning, and seed champions, presented the second quarter fiscal year 2014 balanced scorecard report. The scorecard dashboard shows an overall score of 6.25 for the quarter, which is at goal and up from the previous quarter’s score of 5.19. Five of the 16 processes were above goal, eight down and three remained the same. All four of the Finance Seed measures were up and at or above stretch goal.

Radiation Oncology Center Building Project Update

Also under Review of Activities, Ulrich reported recent progress on the Radiation Oncology Center to the board of directors. The most recent updates show the project is scheduled for completion around mid to late April. Inside painting is almost complete with ceiling tiles and light fixture installation to follow. (Subsequent to the board meeting, the 12,000-pound Varian linear accelerator was delivered on March 1 and installation has begun.)

Open house for the center is schedule for Friday, May 16 from 2-4 p.m. The program will be about 45 minutes with brief tours to follow. The public is invited.

Consent Agenda

The directors approved the minutes for the January 15 regular meeting of the Board of Directors, the January 9 regular meeting of the medical staff and the February 5 regular meeting for the Budget and Finance Committee.

Action to be Taken

Appointments and reappointments were approved for a variety of providers under Consulting Staff, Allied Health Staff, Courtesy Medical Staff and affiliate Staff privileges. Also under Action to be Taken the board heard an annual program evaluation from Kathleen Roffey, RN, interim Home Health and Hospice Director on Community HealthCare and Hospice. The board approved motions for the privilege delineation description and standards for the practice specialty of Ophthalmology. Additional specialties will be reviewed in upcoming months.

Board Education

Directors were made aware of two educational opportunities this spring. Upcoming are The Governance Institute Heartland Health Alliance Spring Trustee Forum and a Bryan Health Connect Lunch ‘n’ Learn.
