Community Hospital Board of Directors Met in September

October 01, 2012

Community Hospital Board of Directors met September 19 and received reports on several subjects.

Environment of Care Report

Directors heard an Environment of Care report given by Dari Olson, Director of Safety, and learned that a fall disaster drill is planned in October. The drill will focus on a chemical exposure to test and activate the decontamination team at Community Hospital.

She also praised the employees for excellent attendance at the All Day Inservice (ADI) annual employee training meetings held monthly. Nearly 100%, or 99.4% of Community Hospital employees attended the ADI this year.

Dari also said the hospital will be hiring security guards. Security coverage will be 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Friday and 24/7 on the weekends. This position was added due to reported incidents at the hospital and the need for increased safety, she said.

Four members of the Incident Command Team plan to attend the Healthcare Leadership training for Mass Casualty Incidents in December, she said.

Phase 2B Report

A lot has been accomplished during the Phase 2B construction project and the project is going very well according to Jim Ulrich and Ted Long. The former surgery area demolition is complete and almost all of the new spaces have been framed in.

Double doors will be installed into the emergency department at the new main entrance. New bathrooms will be completed near the emergency department waiting room as well.

Board of Director Nominees

Jim Ulrich announced the board of director candidates and incumbents who have agreed to run for the Community Hospital Board of Directors. They are: Bruce Bair and Max Abercrombie, incumbents; and Rose Remington, M.D., Christy Daum, and Mary Beth Eisenmenger, candidates. The election takes place in November. Three will be elected.

Community Hospital Strategic Plan and Financial Audit

The Community Hospital Strategic Plan for 2013 to 2017 was approved by the Board of Directors at Wednesday morning’s meeting. Department Directors have access to the plan and have been asked to review essential parts of it to their departments.

The FY2012 audited financial statements were distributed to the board. They received a clean opinion from the auditors.

Quality, Patient Safety and Risk management Reports

Joleen Bradley, Patient Safety and Performance Improvement Director, presented quality, patient safety and risk management reports to the board of directors.

Joleen praised the surgery department, which has implemented the World Health Organization’s Safe Surgery checklist as a means of improving communication and maintaining excellent patient outcomes.

She also said a team has been formed to evaluate the hospital’s in-patient fall prevention plan and develop process changes to reduce falls and falls with injuries.

Community Hospital clinical staff completed the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality Culture of Patient Safety survey in June. Actions plans will be developed once the results are shared with our facility.
