Community Hospital Celebrating Cancer Survivor Month

May 24, 2018

McCook, Nebraska—June is Cancer Survivor Month and Community Hospital will honor and celebrate survivors with two activities.

“Throughout the month, the hospital invites the public to add a flower pinwheel to our “Hope Grows Here” garden at the hospital entrance to help recognize the journey of a survivor,” said Sarah Wolford, Community Outreach Coordinator. She said colorful pinwheels will be available to add survivors’ names and “plant” in the garden. Both survivors and loved ones are encouraged to participate. These will stay in place through June. After July 1, the pinwheels can be picked up to take home, courtesy of Community Hospital.

On Tuesday, June 5 from 1-3 PM, the public is invited to enjoy cupcakes in the hospital’s front lobby during a cancer survivor celebration.

“During 2018, Community Hospital has been focusing on cancer awareness prevention, education and support,” Wolford said. A magnet was mailed out to area zip codes earlier in the year listing cancer prevention events and activities. In addition, a wellness and prevention checklist will be mailed in June to area residents to help create a family health portrait, complete a family health risk assessment and determine health behavior risks. Those who complete the checklist will have their choice of a free gift.

Anyone wanting extra support for achieving wellness can also find it by participating in Community Hospital’s classes such as the Tobacco Cessation Class, Nutrition Services (one-on-one coaching), Diabetes Education and the Eat Smart-Get Fit Classes.

For more information on these tools, services or classes, contact Wolford at 308-340-8550 or
