McCook, Nebraska—Community Hospital is proud to announce two wellness awards recently received. The hospital received the 2017 Well Workplace Award, Gold category, from WELCOA, the Wellness Council of America; as well as the Governor’s Wellness Award, the Growers category.

Both awards are given every three years. In 2014, Community Hospital received the WELCOA award also in the Gold category, and the Governor’s Wellness Award, in the Sowers category.

WELCOA Award

The hospital earned WELCOA’s Gold designation by achieving 177.9 points out of a possible 180. Gold Well Workplaces are companies that have successfully built comprehensive worksite wellness initiatives and are demonstrating and documenting concrete outcomes. According to the WELCOA website, they awarded 47 awards to 47 companies and organizations in 2017, awarding five Platinum, 32 Gold, 7 Silver, 0 Bronze and 3 Small Business awards.

Governor’s Wellness Award

In Nebraska, Community Hospital won the Governor’s Wellness Award-Grower award this year, a step up from the Sower award achieved in 2014. The Sower Award recognizes workplaces that have established quality wellness programs; while the Grower Award honors businesses and organizations demonstrating significant improvement in employee health behaviors. The award program is a partnership of the Governor’s Office, DHHS, and the Nebraska Safety Council/WorkWell. A total of 54 Nebraska employers representing 34 communities were honored for offering evidence-based worksite wellness programs for their employees.

Wellness for Life

Community Hospital has had a vibrant employee wellness program, called Wellness for Life, for more than five years. An online portal was introduced in 2013. The hospital recently upgraded to a new portal, WellSteps, in November. The portal offers employees the opportunity to stay engaged with an active and healthy lifestyle year-round. This portal also offers monthly newsletters, point tracking with healthy choices, and lifestyle-changing challenges. Within the portal Community Hospital employees take a health risk assessment which helps them evaluate their overall wellness. After taking the assessment employees are given a comprehensive report which lists their strengths, opportunities, and suggestions for lifestyle changes. “It is the mission of Community Hospital to make wellness a part of our employees’ everyday culture,” Wolford said.
