Workers continue to complete the overall vault. The thick block ceiling in the area which will house the linear accelerator is composed of 189, 3,500-pound blocks. The 457, 3,500-blocks which make up the vault area are stacked on the walls and ceiling with tongue and grove beveled edges and stacked alternatively to provide a tight seal. The concrete walls and ceiling are four to eight-feet thick. Ulrich reported that by the end of December, the roof structure and steel studs will be well underway.

Construction began on the door which closes the vault. It is lined with several layers of lead blocks. Lead is seven times more dense than concrete. When complete, the door will weigh 25,000 pounds. The center is scheduled to be completed in March with the first treatments offered in early April.
