Hospital and Foundation Sponsor CPR in Schools Program

Kayla Jensen, American Heart Association, Youth Market Director, receives a donation from Terri Shipshock, Executive Director of Community Hospital Health Foundation allowing Community Hospital and the foundation to sponsor the CPR in Schools program in Maywood and Curtis. The sponsorship includes a kit to train students how to perform CPR.

McCook, Nebraska— Community Hospital and Community Hospital Health Foundation provided a grant of $5,000 to the American Heart Association to provide a CPR in Schools Training Kitto area schools. The training kit will be shared between Maywood Public Schools and Medicine Valley Public Schools. Misti Soderlund, RN, Community Hospital Director of Inpatient Services and Todd Hovey, RN will provide the training for students in these locations.

An earlier grant of $10,000 in 2016 from Community Hospital and Community Hospital Health Foundation provided two CPR in Schools Training Kitsfor McCook Public Schools, St Patrick’s School, Southwest Public School and Hitchcock County School which is shared between the schools.

The CPR in Schools Training Kit includes all of the supplies and lesson plans to train students in Hands-Only CPR. It is a goal of the American Heart Association to train young people to be comfortable providing CPR to save lives. Seventy percent of cardiac arrests occur in non-medical settings. CPR intervention gives those individuals a two to three times better chance of survival.
