McCook, Neb. – Community Hospital, in partnership with Clarkson Institute, hosted the Bridges to Mental Health event on January 29–30 at Community Hospital in McCook, bringing together 68 attendees from across the region to focus on the importance of mental health in rural Nebraska and the power of collaboration to strengthen regional support systems.

Participants traveled from communities throughout southwest Nebraska and beyond, including Kansas and Colorado, with some attendees coming from several hundred miles away. The two day event created space for meaningful conversations, shared learning, and connection among healthcare professionals, educators, community leaders, and advocates committed to improving mental health access and outcomes in rural areas.

Throughout the event, attendees explored the unique challenges facing rural communities, discussed innovative approaches to mental health care, and identified ways organizations and individuals can work together to better support the region. The gathering reinforced Community Hospital’s mission of leading the region to a healthier future by addressing mental health as a critical component of overall well being.

Attendees emphasized the value of regional collaboration and shared learning in addressing complex mental health needs. “The Bridges to Mental Health conference was a fantastic opportunity to come together for health and mental health professionals across the area and region to explore strategies and solutions to the complex challenges in the delivery of rural mental health care,” said Rebecca Wiemers, Ph.D., LMHP, CMSW, MPA, of Unified Therapy Clinic, P.C. in McCook. “Bridges to Mental Health created opportunities for various disciplines and providers to have valuable education and recommendations in the treatment of mental health. We were able to come together, collaborate, and receive evidence-based practices to help continue to support those in our rural communities.”

Community Hospital hosted the two day event, which included a Thursday evening reception sponsored by the Community Hospital Health Foundation. The reception took place in the Medical Specialists Center and featured desserts and a charcuterie spread prepared by the Community Hospital Dietary team, a highlight for many attendees and an opportunity to connect in a relaxed setting.
“Mental health is not an issue any one organization or community can solve alone,” said Troy Bruntz, President and CEO of Community Hospital. “Events like Bridges to Mental Health help us break down barriers, learn from one another, and build stronger partnerships across our region. By working together, we can ensure people in rural Nebraska have access to the support and resources they need to live healthy, fulfilling lives.”

Community Hospital extends its appreciation to Clarkson Institute, the Community Hospital Health Foundation, presenters, and all who attended and contributed to the success of the event. The strong regional participation underscored a shared commitment to advancing mental health awareness, education, and collaboration across state lines.
