Community Hospital celebrated the dedication and generosity of its volunteers at the annual Volunteer Luncheon on April 9. The event served as a heartfelt tribute to the individuals who give their time and compassion to support the hospital and the greater community.

Troy Bruntz, President and CEO, welcomed the group of volunteers and thanked them for their services stating, “A community can only be as strong as its volunteers and our community is strong.”

Throughout the past year, volunteers have played a vital role in numerous hospital programs, including Home Health and Hospice, Community Hospital Health Foundation’s Pro-Am and Concert for Healthcare, the Patient and Family Advisory Council, the Board of Directors, and community initiatives such as Meals on Wheels. Their unwavering commitment reflects Community Hospital’s mission of leading our region to a healthier future.

A highlight of the luncheon was the presentation of the esteemed Anne Morse Volunteer Award, which honors individuals who exemplify selflessness, dedication, and a commitment to service. This year’s recipient, Dixie Bethell, was recognized for her outstanding contributions as a Home Health and Hospice volunteer.

Dixie is widely admired by her peers for her steadfast dedication to hospice patients, ensuring the bereavement program continues every month. She leads with compassion and grace, providing encouragement and comfort to those she serves. Her warm presence and motivating spirit remind everyone of the profound impact of kindness, making her a perfect recipient of this respected honor.

"Dixie truly embodies the heart of hospice care," said Barbie Long, Director of Community HealthCare and Hospice, who nominated her for the award. "She is a pillar of strength and compassion, consistently going above and beyond to ensure our bereavement program remains a source of comfort and healing. Her unwavering commitment to serving others makes a profound difference in the lives of our patients and their families.”

"Dixie represents the qualities that Anne Morse stood for—selflessness, encouragement, and unwavering commitment to others,” added Jessica Bortner, Community Hospital Health Foundation Director. “Her dedication to hospice patients and their families is a testament to the power of volunteerism in bringing comfort and hope.”

Upon receiving the award, Dixie expressed her appreciation and shared that the award was even more significant because she had the privilege of working with Anne and sharing an office with her.

Along with the award, an anonymously sponsored $500 grant in Anne’s name from the Community Hospital Health Foundation was given to Community Healthcare and Hospice. This grant honors Dixie Bethell, recognizing her dedication to hospice patients and their families. Dixie’s name will also be added to the Anne Morse Volunteer Recognition Bust, displayed in the hospital’s patient hallway.

Additional outstanding nominees for this year’s award included Stacey Aguilar, Kim and Robbie Holliday, Dari and Jim Olson, and Peg Smalley, each recognized for their exceptional dedication to serving others.

The Volunteer Luncheon serves as a reminder of the impact volunteers have in enhancing the lives of patients, families, and the broader community. Their kindness, generosity, and commitment to service make a lasting difference, and Community Hospital is proud to honor their contributions.
