HOPE AND HEALING WALK HIGHLIGHTS RESOURCES AND COMMUNITY VOICES
McCook, Neb. – Last Thursday, September 10, Community Hospital's Behavioral Health Department hosted its annual Hope and Healing Walk for Suicide Prevention, bringing community members together for an evening of remembrance, support, and awareness.
Attendees heard from Cathy Jibben, DNP-C, of Community Hospital's Behavioral Health Department, who shared information about mental health resources and the importance of suicide prevention efforts within our communities.
The evening also featured a powerful presentation from Bailey Meissner, who courageously shared her family's experience with suicide and the lasting impact it has had on those they love. She shared a touching video about an organization her family established following their loss, MaKenna’s Rae of Hope Foundation, and spoke about the ways they have worked to honor their loved one's memory while supporting others facing similar challenges.
Bailey's message served as a reminder to reach out, have difficult conversations, and never underestimate the impact of checking in on someone who may be struggling. Her story highlighted the importance of hope, connection, and the role each of us can play in suicide prevention.
"Someone you don't even know would love to know you. Stick around," Bailey shared, a simple but powerful reminder that every life has value and that support can be found even in life's darkest moments.
The event also provided access to local mental health resources, remembrance activities, and information about the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, reinforcing Community Hospital's commitment to supporting mental health awareness and providing hope and healing to those affected by suicide.
