Katie grew up in McCook and went to college with the intent of returning to serve her community. She attended Nebraska Wesleyan University from 2017-2019, majoring in Religion, Philosophy, and Biology before moving on to professional school. She was the first non-traditional student to complete a 2-4 pharmacy degree at Creighton School of Pharmacy and Health Professions, graduating in May of 2023. She is an active member of the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists and the Nebraska Pharmacists Association. She has a certification in Antimicrobial Stewardship (2025 from the Society for Infectious Disease Pharmacists) and also has a certification in Diabetic Care (2022 American Pharmacists Association).

Katie and her husband, Peyton, welcomed their son, Soren, in 2025 and also have a sheepadoodle named Angus.
